Deep Conditioning Hair Care Reviews

The biggest part of my hair care regimen besides coloring is deep conditioning. With the level of lift I usually need to achieve the brightness of the colors I want my hair to be, some damage is inevitable. I have tried so many different types and brands of deep conditioning treatments and protein re-builders and what not that I figured I would share a few of my favorites.

**Most of the products I purchase at my local Sally's Beauty Supply but some I do get from a store called Cosmoprof. For the most part I will try to only share the products I get from Sally's on this blog, because to shop at Cosmoprof you must be a beauty professional or a cosmetology student. However, if i find a product there that I am absolutely obsessed with I'll post that on here as well, because I'm sure there are other places online you can get them from without a cosmetology licence.**

I've come across a few different types of conditioning treatments that each serve different purposes, but all of which aid in the strength and condition of your hair.

Hair Masque

  1. Beyond the Zone Last Call Hair Masque- Great Conditioner, repairs damage and has these weird little purple balls in it like a body scrub would.
  2. Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak- Soothes scalp and restores texture really well, especially in curly hair. Can make hair a little greasy though.

Protein Re-builder

  1. Ion Reconstructor- Restores moisture to weak hair. Works well to even out the porosity in ends of hair. Great to use as a pre-color treatment.
  2. Nutress Hair Moisturizing Protein Pack- Rebuilds brittle hair. Great mint scent. Best if used as a pre-color treatment to even out porosity in ends of hair, and ensure even color coverage.

Hot Oil Treatment
  1. Ion Hot Oil- Increases hair elasticity. A great treatment to combat frizz and tame fly-a-ways.  Leaves previously damaged ends shiny and soft.
  2. Proclaim Olive Hot Oil- Moisturizes lifeless, dull hair adding luster and shine. Makes styling hair easier and more manageable.

* When it comes to hot oil treatments I honestly think the best is just pure coconut oil.* (see my coconut oil hot oil treatment post) You could also try a Jojoba Oil or pure Argan Oil Treatments as well for similar results, or make a blend of your own to fit the specific needs of your hair.

Color Treated
  1. Ion Color Defense After Color Sealer- Ensures vibrancy of hair color by sealing hairs' cuticle and extending hair color. Balances pH of hair adding moisture and shine.
  2. Ion Color Defense Intensive Shine Treatment- Perfect after color treatment that leaves hair silky and vibrant with intense shine. Use as a weekly treatment to prolong the life of your hair color by intensifying moisture and combating dull and lifeless appearance.

All of these great treatments are under $5 and I posted links to all of them in the single use packette size. This is what I usually get because I like to change up the type of conditioning I'm using often, but if you try some of these out and find one that you think works best for you, I would recommend buying the larger size bottle of the product, and using it as a once a week treatment like every Sunday or whatever day you have free time. Most of these products say in the instructions to leave on for 3-5 minutes, but I usually leave them on for 20 minutes to a half an hour, if not longer. For even better results, I usually cover my head with a Shower Cap (10 count for 3 dollars) and I always reuse them since they're only in contact with conditioner, no chemicals. After putting the cap on I use a blow dryer on it for about ten minutes and then let cool for ten to twenty minutes.

***A good investment for anyone who uses these treatments regularly, or also anyone who dyes their hair with semi permanent colors (Manic Panic, Punky Colours, Beyond the Zone, N Rage, etc) is a table top Hood DryerI had one for the longest time and it was the best investment ever, but I was careless with it and it broke. Every treatment does better to penetrate the hair with some help from heat. Plus your arm doesn't get tired from the blow dryer and you can read a magazine so you're not so bored. ***
