Movie Mondays: An Affair to Remember (1957)

Starring:Cary Grant & Deborah Kerr

Genre: Romance, Drama
Release Date: 11 July 1957 (USA)

A story of unplanned romance and love. The internal conflict of allowing oneself to truly fall in love uninhibitedly, despite previous engagements and attachments. Upon first meeting there is an instant connection strengthened over the course of the short time spent together over the length of their cruise. By the end of the trip they both know this is more than just a fling, and vow to meet in six months at the top of the Empire State building if the love holds true, but could something get in the way of that meeting?

This movie is enticing from the start with a big plot twist in the middle leading up to a strong ending. Excellent acting by Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr who play off each other beautifully, cute and quirky witty banter that doesn't come across as forced or overly corny. Many tender moments are shared between Terry (Deborah Kerr) and Nickie (Cary Grant) especially in a bond over Nickie's grandmother who Terry finds absolutely beautiful and extraordinary. This is not a self absorbed all encompassing fling the two of them share, but an instant understanding and a love of the world turned outward in the vision they share of their life together.

Despite many complications, will true love be strong enough to bring these two back together?
